12 Wire Spool Upcycling Projects

April 5, by Shellie Wilson. Leave a Comment

Wire spools are a fascinating piece of history and have been used in the industrial sector for many decades. These big wooden spools were used to wrap and store large quantities of wire, and they were once a common sight in many factories and workshops. However, as technology has advanced and the need for wire spools has declined, many of these wooden wonders have been discarded or destroyed.

I have a very fond memory of my Kindergarten days, and one of the things that always stood out to me was the large wire spools in the playground. I can still recall the smell of the playdough mixed with the woody scent of the spools, and the memories of playing on them and imagining all sorts of adventures. Those wooden spools were a staple of the playground, and I loved playing on them.

Unfortunately, as time went on, many of those wooden spools ended up in landfills or worse, burned for firewood. It’s a shame that something that once had such a significant purpose was reduced to waste. But, only now are people starting to recognize the full potential of these wooden delights.

In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in wire spools, and they are now being repurposed and upcycled in a variety of ways. Most of the wooden wire spools that are available today are large and make for excellent table tops. They are often used to create rustic and industrial-style furniture, and they are perfect for creating a unique and vintage look. The wooden texture and natural grain patterns of the spools give each piece of furniture a one-of-a-kind look, making them an excellent choice for those who want to make a statement with their décor.

While the larger wire spools are the most popular for furniture making, there are still some smaller ones out there, waiting to be discovered. These smaller spools are ideal for a variety of creative projects, such as wall decor, candle holders, and even birdhouses. The possibilities are endless when it comes to repurposing these wooden delights.

One of the great things about wire spools is that they are very durable and long-lasting. They are made from high-quality wood, and they have been designed to withstand the rigors of industrial use. This means that they are perfect for use in furniture, as they will not easily break or wear down over time.

Another benefit of using wire spools for furniture and décor is that they are very eco-friendly. By repurposing these wooden spools, you are keeping them out of landfills and reducing waste. You are also helping to conserve natural resources, as you are not using new wood to make furniture. This makes wire spools an excellent choice for those who want to live a sustainable lifestyle and be kind to the environment.

Wire spools are a fascinating and versatile piece of history that is making a comeback. They are perfect for furniture making, wall decor, and other creative projects, and they are a great way to make a statement with your décor. Whether you are looking for a unique piece of furniture or a new DIY project, wire spools are an excellent choice. With their durability, versatility, and eco-friendliness, it’s easy to see why they are becoming increasingly popular. So, if you come across a wire spool, don’t hesitate to give it a second chance!
