5 Places You’re Forgetting To Clean

March 10, 2019 by Shellie Wilson

evel of discipline and effort. A clean environment not only makes a house look good, but it also impacts the health and wellbeing of its inhabitants. While cleaning may seem like a simple task, there’s actually a lot more to it than meets the eye. From understanding the importance of regularly cleaning various items in the house to knowing how to do it correctly, there’s much to be learned.

For starters, it’s essential to know the basics of cleaning, such as the type of products and equipment to use, and the frequency of cleaning. For instance, the cleaning process for a bathroom may be different from the one for a kitchen or a bedroom. There are also certain items in the house that need to be cleaned more frequently, such as doorknobs, kitchen counters, and bathrooms. The reason for this is because these are the items that come into contact with the most germs, and therefore it’s important to keep them clean.

It’s also important to understand the importance of cleaning in a methodical and efficient manner. This means cleaning from top to bottom, so that dirt and debris don’t get redistributed. Additionally, cleaning should be done in a systematic and organized way, so that it can be completed efficiently and thoroughly. This can be achieved by breaking down the cleaning process into manageable chunks and tackling one area at a time.

Keep reading to discover the 5 places that you’re probably forgetting to clean, and yet, you should absolutely get started cleaning with right now.

The Undersides of Furniture

You may be accustomed to finding dust bunnies under your bed and other nooks and corners of your home, and they’re all sorted if you use a dust mop or a vacuum cleaner. But what you almost always forget is checking the undersides of furniture- dust adheres there too. Look a little closer there and you’re bound to find spider webs and dust clinging to the underside frames of the bed, and even under chair seats. Make it a point to clean this space at least twice a year.

Cleaning Tools

Most of us tend to forget that cleaning tools themselves, need to be cleaned regularly too. From vacuum cleaners to mops and scrubbing brushes- everything you clean with, needs a cleaning job too. You can clean most of them by simply using a mixture of warm water and soap, and a disinfectant if needed.

Closet Floors

You can pretty easily spot what is to be cleaned out of the closet, but often, cleaning the floors of the closet itself, takes a backseat. If you’ve got closet floors that are carpeted, you need to put in a little more effort to clean them regularly because they tend to attract dust.

The carpet can also encourage growth of mold and mildew and before you know it, you’ll start to see beetles chowing down on your carpet. Once in a while, make it a point to clean out your entire closet, including the carpet.

Indoor Plants

Whether they’re real or fake, your indoor plants need cleaning too. Just like other things in your home, they too, need to be cleaned. If you’ve got live plants, cleaning them is pretty easy. All you need to do is wash them for a short while under the shower head, and you’re sorted. If they’re  too large to be carried into the shower, you can use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe the individual leaves and parts of the plant. Fake plants can be cleaned easily by simply taking them outside and using a hairdryer set on cool to blow the dust off of them.

Tops of Cabinets and Doors

Whenever you’re on a cleaning spree, take some time to look up. Most of us tend to ignore cleaning the tops of doors, paintings and cabinets, and dust tends to settle in there pretty quickly. Don’t just ignore what’s out of your sight- get your hands on a duster that has an extendable handle to capture the dust, spider webs and anything else that might have made them dirty.

While cleaning may seem like a simple task, there is a lot more to it than just tidying up. Understanding the basics of cleaning and approaching it in an organized and efficient manner is crucial to achieving a clean and healthy environment. By learning and implementing these tips, cleaning will become a less daunting task, and you’ll be able to keep your home in tip-top shape all year round.
