DIY Fake Wasp Deterrent You Can Make At Home

May 7, 2020 by Shellie Wilson

With all the talk about Murder Hornets and Wasps, it is no wonder that people are freaking out. I mean first, we are under attack by a virus and now by Killer bees? How crazy is this year going to get?  I remember a movie that I must have seen as a child about killer bees and I am still traumatized.  So far we don’t have a wasp problem but I am planning on making some fake nests just to be safe. I mean it’s not like I have anything better to do in lockdown than make wasp nests to trick little wasps into thinking that the Joneses have already moved in to the neighbourhood and they need to find their own hood to hang out in.

So here is the full tutorial, this one is a paper mache style with layered fabric. Very durable and weatherproof. Far more practical than hanging a paper bag outside as suggested by the experts.

It is my understanding that these nests won’t help you with the Murderous, murdering, murder hornets as their nests are underground, but please comment below and correct me if I am wrong.

Looking for a crochet version? Check this one out.  or if you really can’t be bothered making one check these out on Amazon.

I made these a couple of years ago. Took some work to make but they have proved to be highly effective. Have been outside for the past two winters with no deterioration. I was very happy to have found this tutorial
