There is something wonderfully satisfying about finishing a handmade Halloween gift with a tag that looks as though it has been pulled from an old witch’s cupboard.
These free printable grungy Halloween gift tags are designed for anyone who loves a slightly darker, vintage-style Halloween rather than bright cartoon colours. The set includes ravens, bats, spiders, pumpkins, haunted houses, witch hats and one rather startled-looking ghost.
They are spooky without being too frightening, which makes them suitable for Halloween gifts, classroom treats, party favours and those little handmade surprises we somehow decide to make at the last minute.
And yes, I am fully aware that adding a decorative gift tag can turn a packet of sweets into something that looks as though you planned it weeks ago. That is exactly the sort of crafting shortcut I support.
Free Printable Halloween Gift Tags
The printable includes eight different grungy Halloween gift tag designs arranged on one A4 sheet.
Each tag has its own vintage Halloween illustration and distressed background, along with space to write a recipient’s name and your own.
The designs include:
- A black raven and full moon
- A vintage Trick or Treat tag
- A grungy jack-o’-lantern
- A haunted house beneath the moon
- A witch’s hat with spooky wishes
- A spiderweb and hanging spider
- A ghost against a dark night sky
- A purple BOO tag with bats
The page has been kept white and ink-friendly around the tags, so you are only printing colour where it is actually needed. Your printer cartridge may still sigh dramatically at the darker designs, but at least it is not colouring the entire page.

Printable size: A4

Avoid selecting “fit to page” unless your printer automatically adds large margins, as this can slightly change the tag size.
What You Will Need
- The free printable Halloween gift tag sheet
- A4 white cardstock
- Colour printer
- Scissors or a paper trimmer
- Small hole punch
- Ribbon, twine or black string
- Optional distress ink
- Optional eyelets or metal rings
A medium-weight cardstock of around 200–250 gsm usually works well. It is sturdy enough to hold its shape but still easy to cut with ordinary scissors.
For an even more polished finish, matte photo paper gives the colours and grungy details a little extra depth.
How to Make the Halloween Gift Tags
Print the Halloween gift tags onto A4 cardstock using your printer’s best-quality colour setting.
Allow the ink to dry completely before cutting, particularly if you are using coated cardstock or photo paper.
Cut around the outside edge of each tag. You can follow the tag shape closely or leave a narrow white border around each design.
Use a small hole punch at the top of each tag.
Thread through black ribbon, orange baker’s twine, rustic jute or a narrow strip of torn fabric.
Write the recipient’s name on the front and attach the tag to your Halloween gift.
For a properly grungy finish, lightly rub brown or black distress ink around the cut edges. This gives the tags a worn, aged look and disguises any less-than-perfect cutting. Not that we make uneven cuts, of course. Those are handmade character lines.
Halloween Gift Ideas for These Tags
These printable Halloween tags can be used for much more than wrapped gifts.
Attach them to clear treat bags filled with sweets, popcorn or homemade cookies.
Tie one around a small jar of Halloween bath salts, sugar scrub or handmade soap.
Use them to label party favour bags at a Halloween celebration.
Add them to teacher gifts, neighbour gifts or workplace treats.
Tie one around a candle, bottle, mug or small basket filled with cosy autumn goodies.
They are also useful for Halloween classroom treats because each tag has room for a child’s name.
Make Them Look Even More Vintage
A few small additions can make the printed tags look surprisingly elaborate.
Ink the edges using brown distress ink and a blending sponge.
Crackle the cardstock gently after printing to create a slightly worn texture.
Add a black eyelet around the punched hole.
Layer the printed tag onto black or kraft cardstock.
Tie the tag with torn muslin, lace, velvet ribbon or rough jute twine.
Add a tiny metal charm, bell, skeleton key or plastic spider.
You can also splatter the finished tags with heavily diluted black paint, although I recommend doing this before writing the names. Halloween crafting is much less stressful when you do not accidentally splatter paint across Aunt Susan’s gift.
Turn the Tags Into Halloween Decorations
These designs can also be used as miniature Halloween ornaments.
Print the sheet onto heavier cardstock, cut out the tags and hang them from a small branch display, Halloween tree or tiered tray.
They would also make fun place cards for a Halloween dinner. Simply write each guest’s name on a tag and place it beside their plate.
Another easy idea is to string all eight tags together with mini pegs to create a small Halloween garland for a mantel, shelf or craft room.
Printing Tips
For the clearest result, print using your printer’s high-quality or photo setting.
Choose white or pale cream cardstock rather than coloured paper, as the designs already include vintage beige, orange, purple and black backgrounds.
Always print one test page before loading your best cardstock.
Check that your printer is set to A4 paper rather than US Letter.
Let the printed sheet dry before stacking, cutting or handling it.
If you are printing several copies for a party or classroom, print one first and check the size before printing the full batch. Printer settings have a mischievous habit of changing themselves at exactly the wrong moment.
These free printable grungy Halloween gift tags are a quick way to make simple Halloween treats and handmade gifts feel much more special.
Print a sheet now, tuck the extras into your craft drawer and enjoy feeling unusually organised when Halloween arrives.
