How To Properly Winterize Your Sprinkler System For Accurate Maintenance

August 19, 2015 by Larissa Coleman

sprinkler

If you have a sprinkler system and live in a climate where your temperatures drop below freezing during the Winter months, then you probably know the importance of winterizing your sprinkler system.  It’s not a difficult job to do, but very important in preventing any kind of pipe freezing and cracking.  While each system can be set up differently, if you don’t have an automatic drainage system built in, the winterizing process is vital.  Trust me if you don’t do this, you will not be a happy camper come Spring and things start thawing, only to find your pipes are leaking.

Thank you for the post! I am trying to get my sprinkler system ready for winter so this was a great tutorial. I had no idea you could use an air compressor to drain your sprinkler system. I know about the insulating the pipes though so hopefully that will keep them from bursting. Is it alright to do something like this yourself or is it better to hire a sprinkler system service?
