This year I became a Soccer Mom, I had planned to never be that person and would not get involved in school sports. Unfortunately, I have two children who both want to do School/weekend sports. Of course they don’t want to do the same sports, instead opting for two different games and 99% of the time they are in two different directions. So weekend sports has come down to both my Husband and I despite my plans.
I love my children, but I hate sport! (I am going to blame this on my brothers to whom games I was dragged to as a child weekend, after weekend)
I didn’t realize all the things I needed to endure the painful woe of watching my children play sports. It’s as if each week I learn something new I need, like an uneducated newborn I keep making rooky mistakes. When my child made the team, he was provided with a list of equipment he would need, no one gave me, the Mom a list.
Hat, it took me 4 weeks to finally remember to pack myself a hat in his sports bag, it took me another 2 weeks to realize I need my own bag. Each week I add something else to my bag, Mud shoes, umbrella, chairs, sunscreen, snacks, hand sanitizer, ice pack, band-aids, nail clippers (netball rules) bug spray and Oh my gosh TOILET PAPER!
Let’s discuss the cold bag too shall we? It includes the bag containing ice water; a tub of oranges that apparently I need to take for the whole team every 6 games. A bag of lollies to sugar them up when they are losing beyond belief and the parents start getting desperate and throw sugar at them.
Then there is another cooler bag with snacks, because when they walk off the field/court they become so hungry they apparently can’t make it back to the car without food or they will die. They threaten your sunburnt over socialized mind right there in front of all the parents. Their soccer boots come off and their tantrum throwing fangs pop back out as you stuff food into their mouth to prevent a meltdown, theirs or yours.
So where does this plethora of things go? in 3 different bags. I am the only person able to carry anything after a game as my children come off the court without the use of their arms and once legs. (I had to carry my 8-year-old or set up camp for the night, I opted for the first choice)
So, I have a fold out chair slung to my back, I have their sports bag, their water bottle, their boots and their disappointment of losing all to carry on my shoulders.
So naturally, the next thing on the list was an “Everything Bag”. I kid you not the next day I see these “Iceware by Wild Eye Designs” beauties on Alwaysfit.com
I couldn’t actually decide between the two insulated lunch bags, so decided I needed them both. The big marble one is a tote bag, this my dear Moms is my new soccer bag. It is big enough for all the stuff and is insulated! So one bag for my water and one bag for the survival kit and I may even store my sanity in there too.
The smaller lunch bag (Retro Tan Bowler Bag) is for sports practice, for this one I only need their afternoon tea and I was tired of taking last years school lunch tote with me to the ovals. It’s fully insulated so I can head out to practice and do a few errands on the way without worrying about their homemade organic chia smoothies going warm. (who am I kidding it’s probably a savoury roll and ice water).
