Valentine’s Day Centerpiece Ideas

January 24, 2019 by Vikram Goyal

On Valentine’s Day, many people like to decorate their homes and throw wonderful parties for their friends and loved ones. If you are looking for some easy centerpieces that will fit the theme and look beautiful on your table, here are some ideas that can be put together in no time at all!

Flirty fun

For a cute, flirty, fun centerpiece that would be perfect for a party with all of your single girlfriends, find an oversized cocktail glass (these can be found in craft stores for low prices). Fill it with plenty of girls best friends: toy diamond rings, bracelets, necklaces, and tiaras. Alternatively, fill it with plenty of chocolates and a girl’s other best friend.

Cute candy bouquets

All you need for this is wrapped candy, kabob skewers, a piece of Styrofoam, and some double-sided tape. Simply attach the candy to the skewers and stick the ends into the Styrofoam to hold them steady. Arrange them as you see fit ñ a suggestion is to use candy roses as the main attraction and green-wrapped chocolate candies as the accent pieces. The effect will be as adorable as it is delicious!

Truffle tower

Create an elegant, chic, and sweet centerpiece by carefully arranging a pyramid of chocolate truffles! If you are daring, balance the truffles on themselves (use a tiny drop of honey to act as adhesive), but if you prefer to play it safe, place small squares of cardboard between each layer or use a stair-step design, like the Mayan pyramids, to create the look.

L-O-V-E

Purchase wooden letters from a craft store, paint them whatever color you choose, and spell out the word ìLOVEî in a vertical stack as your centerpiece. Simply glue each letter to the others, then place a few decorative items around the base. This is definitely the easiest centerpiece of the bunch, but it looks as sweet as any other does!

Champagne bouquet

Whenever champagne is poured, a beautiful layer of foam rises dramatically before settling down. When a bottle of champagne is shaken before being opened, that foam becomes a stream! Use this to create a lovely centerpiece using a champagne bottle. Empty the champagne bottle, then use it like a vase. To make the foamy look, use baby’s breath (press it tightly together, using something to bind it if necessary). Add a few sparkling accents, like glittery sprays or even champagne-colored tinsel, and you are set!†

Building with Nature: My Experience with Natural Birdhouses

If you’re someone who enjoys DIY woodworking projects and has a soft spot for garden wildlife, Natural Birdhouses by Maria and Amen Fisher is a must-read. I picked this book up recently and have been completely inspired by the earthy, sustainable approach it offers to building homes for birds, bats, and even beneficial bugs.

What really drew me in was the focus on using found wood and natural materials—think branches, logs, reclaimed boards, and other bits of nature you can often source from your own backyard or a nearby forest. Not only does this make the projects eco-friendly, but it also gives everything a beautiful, rustic feel that blends effortlessly into any garden or backyard setting.

The book includes 25 step-by-step projects, all clearly explained and illustrated, which makes it accessible for both beginner and seasoned crafters. Even if you don’t have a fully-equipped workshop, most of these can be tackled with just a few basic tools and a bit of patience.

I started with a simple birdhouse design, using some weathered fence boards I had stashed in the shed. The instructions were easy to follow, and I was surprised how quickly it came together. Within a couple of days of putting it out in the garden, a curious little sparrow showed up—talk about instant reward! I’ve since bookmarked the bat box project and one of the insect hotel builds for next weekend.

What I really love about this book is that it’s not just about crafting; it’s about encouraging wildlife and creating a more natural, welcoming habitat right in your own yard. It’s a great way to involve kids, too—mine were fascinated by the idea of building a bug hotel and couldn’t wait to help collect materials.

If you’re looking for nature-inspired DIY garden projects that not only look good but also serve a purpose, Natural Birdhouses is full of ideas that check all the boxes. It’s creative, environmentally conscious, and a great way to spend time outdoors while giving something back to the ecosystem.

I’d definitely recommend this to anyone into sustainable gardening, backyard birdwatching, or rustic outdoor décor. Let me know if you give it a try—I’d love to hear what you build!
