Distressed Wood Flag – DIY Reclaimed Wood

June 30, 2011 by Amanda Formaro

This distressed wood flag project is a beautiful way to bring a little rustic Americana charm into your home, porch, patio, or summer holiday decorating. If you love handmade patriotic decor but prefer something that feels aged, farmhouse-inspired, and full of character, this DIY wood flag is a lovely project to try.

What makes this style so appealing is the weathered finish. Instead of looking shiny or store-bought, the distressed paint gives the flag that well-loved, vintage feel that works beautifully with farmhouse decor, primitive decorating, country-style homes, and outdoor summer displays. It is the kind of piece you can bring out for the 4th of July, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Labor Day, or leave up all season long if you love classic red, white, and blue decor.

This is also a great project for using scrap wood, reclaimed boards, leftover paint, or supplies you may already have in the garage or craft room. With a little sanding, layering, and simple painting, you can create a patriotic decoration that feels personal, handmade, and far more meaningful than something picked up from a store shelf.

Whether you hang it on a front door, lean it on a mantel, display it on a porch, or use it as part of a holiday tablescape, this DIY distressed wood American flag is a timeless summer craft with plenty of rustic charm.
