    I hate being a grinch, but I want to remind people that Advent Calendars are to prepare us for the coming of the Nativity in Christian tradition, or the seasonal solstice in more secular terms. They are not to teach kids/adults about greed, which some of this new “tradition” seems to be promoting. The origins of Advent Calendars come out of Germanic traditions, and IMHO, buy a sparklely one at the card store and take the cash you might save to the nearest Red Kettle ad teach the true giving spirit to others
